Shorts in the community

Shorts has operated in the Chesterfield area for more than 100 years and we believe that we have a wider role to play in the community than just our business activities. The partners and staff are keen to contribute in the workplace, marketplace, community and environment.

Ashgate Hospice

Shorts partners are official sponsors of Ashgate Hospice and have worked with the hospice for many years. In 2009, a team from Shorts completed the Round Chesterfield Walk to raise money for Ashgate Hospice. Despite enormous blisters and total exhaustion, they walked 27 miles and raised over £1200.

In 2010, a team completed the Derwent Valley Heritage Way walk. At 32 miles, this was a very long day. However they all persevered and raised over £700 for Ashgate Hospice.

Endeavour Training

An annual event is the Canoe Challenge for Endeavour Training. This is a charity that helps underprivileged young adults. A team of 14 staff from Shorts entered the canoe challenge and completed 38 miles along 3 different canals in one day. Despite being amateurs, it was completed in just over 8 hours and raised over £2000 for Endeavour Training.

Race for Life

Many of the Shorts employees take part in the annual Race for Life for Cancer Research. Some run like hares, others walk round the course and some go to watch.

Fairplay Business Challenge

Between January and July 2011, the staff at Shorts are competing against other local businesses in a bid to see who can raise the most for local children’s charity Fairplay.  A variety of fundraising events are planned, details of which will be posted at regular intervals.

Opportunities

If you have a local charity and are arranging a fund raising event, why not call Shorts and see if we are able to join in.
