FAQs

How long has Shorts been in business?

Shorts was founded in 1890 and is now one of the largest accountancy and financial services practices in the South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire area.  We have 9 Partners and around 60 staff.  Based in Chesterfield and Sheffield we are ideally located to help you with your business.

How much do you charge?

Our first step is to work with you so that we can gain a full understanding of your business, tailoring our approach to meet your requirements so that we can provide exactly the service you need. We will then provide a written quotation for you or we are happy to provide a fixed fee quotation.

How do I change Accountants?

We do all the work for you. Simply tell us the name of your last accountant and we will write to them and get the relevant information from them. All you need to do is sign a letter which we provide authorising your accountant to pass all the information to Shorts.

Can you help me with my bookkeeping?

We are able to offer a full range of bookkeeping and accounting services and can also quote you a fixed fee so you can plan your expenditure.

Are you registered auditors?

Yes. We carry out many audits including some very large ones. Our audit approach is about more than simply meeting the statutory requirements.  Our reputation for quality and integrity means that you will receive accounts that your stakeholders can trust.

Can you help with business planning?

Shorts have many years of experience advising businesses of all sizes in a wide range of sectors.  Why not let us help you plan for the future?

Can you help minimise the corporate tax that I pay?

We can help you minimise your corporate tax exposure (and make sure you comply with tax legislation) by:

  • Determining the most tax effective structure for your business;
  • Taking full advantage of tax opportunities and relief;
  • Meeting the rigorous demands of compliance including corporation tax self assessment; and
  • Acting on your behalf in discussions with the tax authorities.

We believe our job is to provide ideas as well as accounts and to think about next year as much as the last.

I only have 2 employees. Can you help with the payroll?

We have a dedicated team who provide a comprehensive and confidential payroll service, which as you would expect deals with all the administrative aspects of running a payroll. We offer this service to all businesses regardless of size of payroll.   Call us now and ask to speak to one of the partners.
